A little slice of home

Since the summer and especially since I've arrived here, I've been in search of a good pizza. Last year I tried both frozen pizza and pizza from a small shop in Blidworth and both were far from the quality I was used to stateside. I'm not by any means a pizza connoisseur but I like a tasty, thin crust, a medium sauce with a light taste and good amount, a well portioned cheese and fresh ingredients.
Sadly I found cardboard covered in cheddar doubling as pizza far too many times to have any hope.

However, today I have (re)discovered a good pizza pie that reminded me of the good stuff I was used to back home-and for good reason!

Today we went to Pizza Hut.

Yes! They have Pizza Hut in the UK! Naturally they have all of the YUM! brands here except for any Taco Bells in my area, which is a shame since they'd easily make a profit on me alone.

Nevertheless, I was exceptionally dubious as to how the pizza would fare here in England. I've tried many Americanized foods over here and have been very disappointed with quite a few of them. That's not to say the food here is bad...not true! The British foods are fantastic and I prefer some of the foods over American, however when you're used to certain portions, textures and flavours in the states, when it falls short of your expectations, it can leave a dull taste in your mouth, pun intended.

So we arrive at the Hut of Pizza this fine Sunday afternoon in May after seeing an exceptional Marvel movie involving every X-Men character to date save for maybe two. After such a Marvel-ous movie we simply needed a classic pie!

The outside was everything you'd expect from the red-roofed chain.

Seems like your typical Pizza Hut, right?

However, when you step inside you quickly see that everything you know is a lie and you absolutely must try this place because the décor is simply amazing.

The seating area was very clean and modern with a Ice Cream Factory in the far left corner and a salad bar.
Yes, those are indeed wine bottles. They served beer and liquor.

Our Pizza came out in record time and it was very generously portioned and exactly what we ordered, half plain cheese (margherita) and half with olives, red onion, mushrooms and spinach. We ordered a stuffed crust too, which was a lovely surprise to see here since I had always loved stuffed crust back home.

I was delighted to see such fresh toppings. Whole olives and fresh spinach plus cut mushrooms, not canned.

All in all the experience was fantastic. Plus it was one of the few places I've come across to give you refills on your drinks. We didn't take advantage simply because we had some stores to get to before they closed but had we lingered we would have. For £2.75 a pop (pun intended) you'd like to get your money's worth!
All together the tab was over £18 so relatively average for here. You could easily spend that at a pub or another sit down joint. I very highly recommend this Pizza Hut and will definitely head here for all my future pizza cravings! It's a shame they don't deliver!!
